A bit about us

Katrina

I’m Michigan born and bred. My dad was a preacher in a small town and I’m the youngest of six kids.

In college I studied English with a minor in communication, working in the radio department at Radio Bible Class (Our Daily Bread) before settling in as a stay-at-home mom and eventually classically homeschooling our five kids.

I returned to work outside the home in 2016, working in college admissions. Then, after an 18 month break to work in digital marketing with authors, I’m now back at the same university working for two academic departments as an admin.

I’m curiously exploring art with weekly collage and mixed media art lessons. A blank art journal page is a great opportunity for me to listen to myself and find freedom in adding layer upon layer. I’m learning about happy accidents and how life-giving it is to use my hands, my mind, and my heart to create.

As a Disciple of Christ, I want to know God’s love, recognize his presence with me and to love his Word — even in the times when his word feels silent to me.

Finally, I enjoy a good scone, a hearty bread, sitting by a body of water, a solid road trip, and all our kids at home at our table.

Chris

A life-long resident of West Michigan, my journey has been eclectic and unpredictable. Professionally, I’m a utility player of sorts, having spent time in engineering, ministry, and higher ed. Personally, I’ve been companion to illness, adoption, deep friendship, the death of my father, and a terrific marriage.

For fun, I’m perpetually gathering and gleaning from books, podcasts, and conversations. In addition to an engineering degree, I found time to earn a M.A. in Religion (sounds like an Enneagram Type 5, right?). I’m interested in spiritually formative practices, the writings of saints and mystics, birds, and baking sourdough bread.

In the day-to-day, I’m tensioned between trying to control my life and trusting God with the details. One of my mantras is, “loosen your grip!” and I’ve found that when I do, God has always been near, safe, and trustworthy. One of my desires (and joys) is to journey with others seeking to experience God in similar ways.
